Malin Dessner was born and raised in Falköping, Sweden. She has studied in both Australia and Spain and has an MS. Pharmacy degree from Uppsala University. After traveling extensively in the world, she moved to NYC in March 2011 to live with her American husband whom she met in Beijing. Malin is working at Pfizer coordinating registration of new drugs in the Latin American region, and when not at work she enjoys drinking wine, spending time with friends and family, and trying new playgrounds with daughter Ebba.
Malin has been a member of SWEA New York since May 2011 and became a member of the Board on January 1, 2013. She was appointed Vice President & Secretary by the Board of Directors on October 1, 2013. Malin is looking forward to continuing to serve on the Board in her capacity as Vice President for the term January 1 – December 31, 2018.
Lisa Hammarstrand is from Gothenburg and after finishing Arts and Drama school she then moved to Cork, Ireland before returning home with the taste for living abroad. One rainy summer day back in Gothenburg a couple of years later she decided to move to Uppsala to study Leadership and Project Management. Her experience stretches between hotel management, tourism, and retailing. She later joined a Design Agency in Stockholm as an Office Manager, Executive Assistant to CEO and finally as an HR Manager before she started her own consulting business. Lisa moved to New York City in 2015 and shortly met her Australian husband and they decided to live in NYC together. Lisa enjoys walking in Central Park, listening to documentaries, watching tv-seriers and movies. Lisa is looking forward to serve on the Board in the capacity as Program committee representative, for the term January 1 – December 31, 2018.
Rebecca was born in Dalarna, Sweden. She studied TV-Production in Santa Barbara and later started her career within Film and Television back home in Sweden where she was working with several productions companies on TV-commercials, feature- and short films. Following her interest in international film and TV production she moved to New York and completed the Producing Program at the New York Film Academy. Since graduations, Rebecca has produced several shorts, music videos and commercials in New York but started to move more towards events the last few years and is currently working at The Permanent Mission of Sweden to the United Nations in New York with programs and events.
Rebecca joined SWEA in 2013 where she after one year became a board member and chairperson for the Programme Committee. This has been an amazing experience for Rebecca and SWEA has become a big part of her life here in New York. Rebecca would like to continue working with SWEA NY as the President for the term January 1 – December 31, 2018.
LISA E. LASKARIDIS
Lisa E. Laskaridis was born in Stockholm, Sweden. She holds a Masters Degree in International Relations and Political Science from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia, and she arrived in New York in 2010, while undertaking a work placement at the United Nations Department of Public Information. Lisa currently works as Press and Communication Officer at the Permanent Mission of Sweden to the United Nations in New York. Lisa joined SWEA New York in 2010 and served as the President from 2013 to 2017. Lisa feels strongly of SWEA as an extension of her family away from home and would be delighted to continue contributing her time as an alternate for the term January 1 – December 31, 2018.
Ewa was born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden. She has a degree in Social Studies from Södra Latin, Stockholm. Ewa began her carrier in the hotel industry, she has worked both in Stockholm, London and eventually moved to California on a work visa. After 12 years in the hotel industry she changed her career to retail and started working for Macys in 1994 which lead her to New York in 2012 after receiving a job offer at the word famous Macy’s Herald Square. Ewa lives in Queens with her life partner Steve and their cat Lucy. They love trying new adventures, like driving across the US or planning a upcoming trip to Tokyo. Other interests are interior designs, visiting museums, going to the theater or visit as many different restaurants as humanly possible. She holds a dual citizenship after she became a US citizens in 2011.
Ewa has been a member of SWEA New York since August 2012, a member in the program committee since September 2013 and valberedningen since January 2016. Ewa is looking forward to serve on the Board in the capacity as Secretary for the term January 1 – December 31, 2018.
Cinna Vesterberg is from Uddevalla, Sweden. Before moving to New York 1996, she lived in Stockholm for three years working at a non profit organisation and studied acting at Kulturama. In New York she continued her acting studies at Neighborhood Playhouse and HB Studio. While still in school, she started working part time as a puppeteer at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theater in Central Park. Part time ended up as full time and she is now a Civil Servant puppeteer working for NYC Parks and Recreation. At the Swedish Cottage, Cinna’s main responsibilities is now as a puppetry administrator, booking the Puppet Mobile six month tour in all five boroughs. They have a yearly audience of about 25000 children. A new focus is directing and she will be the assistant Artistic director for the upcoming Peter Pan show at the Swedish Cottage. In fall 2018 she will direct her own show which will be part of the Ingmar Bergman 2018 celebration.
Cinna is a shop steward in her union and also served on the board as the activity coordinator at the Swedish School in Hudson Valley. Her household is tri- lingual. Her husband is Puerto Rican, learning Swedish. Tilda, almost 7, is learning Spanish in school and Swedish at home.
Cinna is a recent addition to SWEA New York, and is looking forward to serve on the Board in her capacity as Treasurer for the term January 1 – December 31, 2018.
Iris Voltaire was born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden. She came to New York in 2015 to work within communication and business development for a Swedish non-profit organization called World Childhood Foundation USA. Iris has a BSc. in Business Administration from Copenhagen Business School. In addition to her bachelor’s degree, Iris has been studying media and communication studies in San Diego, California and Lund, Sweden. She has a great passion for healthy food, travel and running. Iris is the founder and CEO of Iris Superfood – a Swedish based superfood brand. She joined SWEA in August 2016 and is looking forward to serve as an alternate for the term January 1 – December 31, 2018.
Christina Xenos is from Gothenburg, where she both worked and got her education in political and social science. After a long process and a bit of hesitation Christina moved to NYC this summer to live with her husband, who’s from NYC. They now live in Queens.
Christina has during the fall been able to keep her Swedish job as a Program Manager for a nonprofit called Vägen ut! Kooperativen, one of Sweden’s most successful social enterprises. Christina has always worked with social justice issues and is driven by a commitment to create better opportunities for others in society. Christina is now looking to establish herself in NYC and find a job here. Christina loves food and restaurants, music and politics and to get to know new people.
Christina is a new member in Swea NYC, she joined this summer. She has experience from Sweden being a board member . Christina is looking forward being part of Swea NYC as an alternate during the term January 1 – December 31.
