SWEA New York SCHOLARSHIP
SWEA, Swedish Women’s Educational Association, is a global non-profit organization for Swedish and Swedish-speaking women who are living or have lived abroad. SWEA’s mission includes supporting and raising awareness of the Swedish language, culture and traditions.
SWEA New York was established in 1983 and has approximately 100 members. Mona Johnsson was one of the founders and she remained a deeply engaged and valued member until she sadly passed away in 2014.
The SWEA NY Scholarship is one of the ways we support and encourage cultural exchange, education, and creative achievement. It amounts to a total of $3,000 per year and may be awarded in whole or in part to qualified individuals pursuing academic or professional research/studies or artistic endeavors related to Sweden.
Areas of study or research may include — but are not limited to — Swedish culture, history, music, visual or performing arts, literature, media, science or the environment.

The recipient will receive the scholarship diploma at SWEA New York’s Annual Meeting in February 2027. Recipients are also asked to share how the scholarship contributed to their work, either through a written report or a presentation.
